About Indiana

Indiana farm country splits its personality by region: broad corn and soybean plains through the middle, rolling hills to the south, small-town berry farms and orchards scattered nearly everywhere in between. The farms that open their gates to visitors run the range too (educational tours on one, hands-on harvesting on the next), and most are family operations that have worked the same ground for generations.

Southern Indiana holds a quieter surprise: wine. The Ohio River Valley's microclimates and folded terrain have made it a real vineyard region, with tasting rooms pouring local bottles and often pairing them with farm-to-table food. The craft brewery scene has followed the same instinct, setting up on working farms and brewing with ingredients grown a field away, a beer with a view of its own raw materials.

Head north and the character changes again. Around Amish Country, agritourism runs on tradition: dairy farm tours, U-pick berry fields, markets stacked with fresh produce and homemade goods. Across the whole state, historic barns and farmsteads have found second lives as farm stay lodging and wedding venues, rural retreats and event spaces that keep the working landscape in the frame.

Whatever the occasion (a slow weekend, a family outing, a barn wedding), the calendar does the programming. Spring brings planting festivals, summer the berry picking, autumn the apple harvest, winter the holiday markets. Every stop is a small argument for paying attention to where food comes from, made by the people who grow it.
